LIFE AT THE SPEED OF MY SHUTTER

32/365- The secret to happy babies

February 3, 2011

Bailey had several rough days after her surgery. Crying all day and insisting on being held, even throughout the night. (which is the reason I got behind on my 365, taking pictures and posting) The ENT’s nurse said days 7-10 are the worst and we definitely found that to be true. In the hospital, they had given her Tylenol with Codeine once and it did absolutely nothing. So when the doctor gave us a prescription with our discharge papers, the nurse said that if it was her, she’d never get it filled since it didn’t work for Bailey. So we didn’t. Around day 7, we decided to try it again.

It worked! Bailey suddenly would feel good enough to get down and play for a few minutes throughout the day. I may have a new love of my life…well, for now anyway.

34/365- Monkey Bread

February 3, 2011

Around Christmas, I was trying to think of something easy and different for Christmas morning. Growing up, I never had monkey bread and always thought it looked delicious. So that was our Christmas breakfast. Both kids absolutely loved it and Chance has asked for it again and again. It’s quick enough that I can whip it up during the week too and it bakes while I’m getting ready. Delicious and easy is always a win in my book.

It’s not quite as pretty as normal since it was a rushed job, but no one seemed to notice.

33/365- Sleepy baby

February 3, 2011

Yesterday, I had to pick Bailey up from daycare early for a doctor’s appointment, so she missed most of nap time. Later in the afternoon, she brought me 2 of her pacifiers, all excited. I reminded her that pacis are for night night and she went back to her room. I assumed to throw the pacis into her crib. A little time went by and she hadn’t returned, so I went to check on her. She’d been playing in her room all afternoon, so I assumed she was playing quietly and this is what I found:

Sleepy girl

Note: She normally ALWAYS has on clothes. Babies and toddlers that run around naked make me cringe for some reason. She normally has to have on clothes, but yesterday she wanted to be naked for some reason and I allowed it for a little while. You can see how good of a time she’d been having by the mess in her room.

27/365- K-cups

January 27, 2011

I’ve been slowly changing a few things up in my kitchen. Small changes to keep me from getting bored. I was trying to think of a solution for my k-cups (for my Keurig) and didn’t like the basic spinny tower thing that Keurig sells. So I got a simple glass jar and put them in it. I like it for now and it cleans out a few of them in the cabinet.

26/365- Miserable migraines

January 26, 2011

I feel like I haven’t put much into my Project 365 lately and hate that. I was really enjoying it and getting in the habit of taking a picture a day. Then between Bailey’s surgery and recovery and my dear friend Migraine, I haven’t had the time or energy to focus on it much. Anyway, here’s the 26th picture of the day: my favorite migraine remedy. Sonic cherry coke and Frova. I have the most awesome husband who can tell just by the look on my face that I’m not feeling well and will bring home a cherry coke or if I’m working, stop by the office with one. I always tell him that’s the reason I’ll love him forever. 🙂

25/365- Duct tape bookmarks

January 25, 2011

To go with my goal of reading more, I commented to Chance that I’d love a bookmark for Christmas. I told him store bought or homemade, either was fine. So he worked hard and made me a duct tape bookmark with my name on it. It makes me smile every time I pull it out, knowing how he made it with love.

24/365

January 24, 2011

I have an addiction that I’ve put off for the last few years. I love to read. Obsessively so, once I start a book, it takes everything in me not to finish it in a day. I wanted to get back to reading more this year and had aimed for 1 fiction book a month. I typically am always reading some form of non-fiction, so I wanted to aim for more fiction. I’ve already read 3 this month, 2 this week, so I’m well on my way.

23/365

January 23, 2011

I’ve missed a couple of days in my 365 this week, since I’ve been busy cuddling an achy baby. She’s been very restless and tired, plus refusing to eat or drink. This morning she was wore out and running fever, so she stripped down and fell asleep on her Daddy…who I don’t think ever smiles for a picture.

19/365

January 21, 2011

I’ve been busy the past few days and haven’t focused a lot on my Project 365 because my baby girl had surgery Wednesday. She had tubes put in both ears and her tonsils and adenoids removed. I didn’t want to lug my dSLR and flash, various lenses, etc to the hospital and my sweet son said I could borrow his point and shoot. I was excited. A small camera would be perfect and I’ve been considering buying myself one. Well, that one day using it was nice, but made me remember why I love my dSLR so much. Maybe I just wasn’t used to the settings, but I got terrible camera shake and the exposure was off.

When we first got to the hospital, she was real quiet and didn’t know what to think. She sat around and watched tv with her daddy. She was pretty impressed with the tv in bed.

When that got boring, I pulled out my entertainment stash of stickers. She applied every sticker to her daddy’s hands.

Then she got an itty bitty hospital gown. I couldn’t resist a picture of her tiny diaper hanging out the back. She was trying to swing on Gregg’s legs and caused some motion blur.

Then we went to the pre-surgery room, where they gave her “seperation anxiety” medicine. Basically something to make her a little sleepy so she wouldn’t notice when she’s whisked away to surgery. I wasn’t sure it was going to be enough to make her obvlious, but it really worked. She had no clue when they took her away.

It all went well and soon enough she was antsy and ready to roam.

17/365- Coloring

January 17, 2011

Bailey loves arts and crafts of any kind. It’s her favorite part of day at daycare and is always proud to show us her newest creation. She will happily sit in her high chair and color while I cook dinner or clean the kitchen. This is what she did yesterday while we played Blokus (yes, I knew I was having a busy week and cheated by taking this picture early). She also decided to draw on her forehead as well as the paper.

Bailey coloring

When Chance was a baby, he never got into any trouble. He would have NEVER thought to color on anything except what I told him to color on. He always followed the rules and did as he was expected. It blew my mind that kids colored on the walls. Surely their parents weren’t doing something right. Then Bailey was born. She marches to her own drum. She knows right from wrong, but it doesn’t affect her at all….well, except to squeal and run faster when she sees me coming. Which is why she must be confined during craft time. I used to let Chance finger paint on the floor, with a large sheet of paper. I could go to the bathroom or do laundry while he painted. No worries. Ms. Bailey? I can’t take my eye off her IN the high chair and finally understand that it wasn’t the other parents, I just got lucky with an obedient child.
